1. Will blinds save me money?

One of the biggest selling features are the prices associated with blinds when comparing to shutters. Although at first this might be the appealing option it is important to remember that blinds décor are constantly changing and what is in today most likely will be out of trend in 5 years due to new fashions but most likely due to wear and tear. Blinds have a life expectance of 5 years while shutters have stood the test of time in a constant changing fashion and product durability

2. What is safer and easier to clean?

Blinds are typically thinner materials and more parts allowing for dust and pollin to accumulate on the face, back and components while shutters have space between louvers keeping cleaning a breeze.

3. What type of paints are used at Shutter Shield window coverings?

Shutter Shield uses a safe “Water Base Sherwin Williams Paint” to ensure your family is not exposed to harmful toxins that you may find in blind material and PVC shutters. PVC shutters being the most toxic of all release phthalates and VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)

4. Wood VS Plastic, PVC shutters?

Since we have become more familiar with plastics and PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) materials it is important to educate the public of its potential hazards to your families health and home environment. Although it can be a much less expensive option, most plastics shutters that have been manufactured and installed in homes pose a threat. In the manufacturing of PVC , many toxic chemicals are released including phthalates ester whose molecules to not bond allowing them to move through the PVC freely. When plastic is exposed to direct sunlight and solar heat from surrounding vents these phthalate are released into our homes, and environment. PVC and plastics also end up in our oceans polluting our environment and creating a devastating counter affect on the generations to come. Wood shutters on the other hand are safe for your family, home and the environment while offering a more natural look

When asking a Shutter dealer that manufacture both Wood and Plastic 99.9% of the time a dedicated dealer will choose wood for your families safety, health and the environment.  It is important when choosing wood or plastic to ask the dealer that has your family interest at heart. Plastic dealers will only sell plastic products, while dealers selling both options will always gear you towards wood products.

Plastic shutters when installed near heating vents, and direct exposure to sunlight will eventually start to yellow, while creating an overall dull product that once had a gloss.
